Overview

The control chart is a graphical presentation of the data collected. This is a special case of the sheet of data collection.

What is the control chart?

Every activity, whatever its accuracy, produces variations. The control card is used to measure these variations and see the trend of the measures.

The control card is used to point the state of performance seen at a given time and to compare it to goals.

How to use the control chart?

The use of control chart involves several phases:

  • Determine the variable to measure and method of measurement.
  • Determine the objective (range measurements) in determining the optimal value (average value), the minimum and the maximum value.
  • Chart that will be used for the collection and presentation of data: the X axis, Y axis, ax value corresponding to the optimal axis corresponds to the minimum value and the axis corresponding to the maximum value.
  • Pointer measured values on the graph and connect the dots by line segments.
  • Analyzing the graph, comparing the measures to the limits, to determine the status of performance considered.

Example of control chart

The following example shows the measured temperature of a tomato sauce used for jutage boxes of sardines.
