Quality tools

Overview

To improve a process or solve a problem, the quality control has to deal with quality tools to perform these tasks.

the tool quality is a means or an instrument designed to effectively achieve a specific task, according to a well-defined procedure. Relatively autonomous, it can target and support improvement activities and change. Quality tools are divided into two categories: traditional quality tools, also called basic tools and other tools.

The traditional tools (basic tools)

These tools date back to 50 years. They were developed in Japan for use by managers and staff of enterprises following the teachings of Deming and Juran, two American inculquèrent the Japanese principles of the statistical analysis of quality.

These basic quality tools are seven:

• The form of data collection,
• the Pareto chart,
• The diagram of cause-effect (Ishikawa),
• brainstorming,
• the control card,
• the data representation and
• correlation diagram.

The other quality tools

Besides the basic quality tools you can use other tools. These tools are classified in part because they are less used or designed for special use. These tools can include, for example:

• The method of 5S and
• FMEA method (Analysis of Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality)
